Red and White Patchwork Pillows

My son's pillows are finished.  He loves them and was very excited when he saw them set out on his bed.

My 4 year old requested some pillows made with Lightning McQueen colors, but I couldn't use any colors other than red and white.  I could not use Lightning McQueen fabric.  Orange and yellow were not allowed (Lightning is red with a little orange and yellow)...These were all his instructions.

His favorite colors are red and green, so he chose green for the back.  What can I say he has a process and he knows what he wants!

The quilt on the bed is the I spy quilt I made a couple of months ago.  If you missed it, you can read about it here.  He is very proud of this quilt!

This was a quick and simple project.  I loved sorting through my red and white fabrics.  My son's favorite fabrics are the red and white chevron fabric (Remix Zig Zags by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman in Red) and the solid green on the back.  His room is very colorful with a lot of red accents, so these fit right in.

Apollo stayed with me while I fixed up the pillows to surprise my son and snapped a few pictures.  I think the lizard outside on the window sill was more interesting than what I was up to.

Have a great Tuesday!

  1. So cute!! I love the red and white and I especially like the eye spy quilt. Great job!! I really enjoy making stuff for my kids and it's great to include them by letting them pick out the fabric. My kids and I enjoy our time at the craft/fabric shops we frequent. We all get to be creative. I think that's such a gift!! Thanks for sharing!!

  5. Very pretty and I love that your son was part creative director. The I spy quilt is a great piece. I just finished a quilt from a few years ago for my now 13 year old son. He picked the fabric and insisted I 'didn't cut it up too much'. He may be almost 6 feet tall and a bit too old for the patterns now, but he loves that it is finally finished.
